Dr. Shruti Sharma is a Professor and Head of the Department of Civil Engineering. She joined Thapar Institute of Engineering & Technology as a Lecturer in 2004. She is a Gold-Medallist in B.Tech (Bachelors in Civil Engineering, REC- Jalandhar) as well as her M.E (Masters in Structural Engineering, PEC - Chandigarh). She was awarded INAE (Indian National Academy of Engineering) Award for Best Doctoral Thesis in 2011. She has been the Principal Investigator of various research projects sponsored by Govt. of India agencies like AICTE (All India Council of Technical Council), DST (Department of Science and Technology), UGC (University Grants Commission), and NRB (Naval Research Board) amounting to more than 100 lakhs. Her areas of research include health monitoring of infrastructures, sustainable construction, and application of nano-materials in civil engineering applications. She has more than 80 publications to her credit out of which 44 are SCI-indexed (Till October 2024). She was given a “Letter of Appreciation by DST” for her wonderful contribution to corrosion monitoring in reinforced concrete structures in a research project.
She has developed a “Structural Health Monitoring Laboratory” which has all the latest Non-Destructive Test set-ups (Acoustic Emission, Infra- Red Thermography, Ultrasonic P-R systems, Fibre-Optic sensing technology, Corrosion Monitoring Set-ups, etc., Contact Angle Meter), which is one of its kind in North India.
