Prof. Changduk Kong is an Emeritus Professor at the Department of Aerospace Engineering and former Dean of Chosun University, South Korea. He is a Distinguished Chair Professor at Kunsan National University. He was also an international visiting faculty at the Department of Aerospace Engineering, IIT Kharagpur. His achievements include the development of the first Korean small jet engine and the development of the first Korean 750 KW HAWT wind turbine system. Recipient of Ministry Education Award, 1974; Defense Science medal, Ministry of National Defense, 1989, 91, 92; award from Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Energy, 2004; award from Ministry of Knowledge Economy, 2008.
Prof. Kong has contributed greatly to the development of Aerospace Engineering in Korea, primarily through his roles as President of SASE (The Society for Aerospace System Engineering) in 2013-2016, President of ICRC (International Collaboration Research Centre in Natural Composites, Chosun University) in 2012-2014, former President of KSAS (The Korean Society for Aeronautical and Space Sciences, 2010), former President of KSPE (The Korean Society of Propulsion Engineers, 2007-2008), former President of KNST (Korea Society for Naval Science and Technology, 2018), Ex-Chair of Cycle Innovation- IGTI-ASME in 2009-2011, former President of RIME (Research Institute of Mechanical Engineering-Chosun University, 2006-2008) and former Head of the Aero-Propulsion Division of ADD (Agency for Defense Development,1978-1994), First Lieutenant of ROKAF (Republic of Korea Air Forces, 1974-1978). He received Order of Science and Technology Merit for his scientific achievement and contribution to Korean aerospace development, Academic Achievement Awards from KSAS, SASE, and KSPE, Defense Science Medals, the 2015 KAI-KSAS Prize, and the KAL-SASE Prize for his scientific achievement and contribution to Korean aerospace development. Prof. Kong has authored and co-authored more than 600 papers.
Prof. Kong has also served as an Editorial Board Member of IJTJ (International Journal of Turbo & Jet Engines), IJCM (International Journal of Composite Materials), CJA (Chinese Journal of Aeronautics) and AEAT (Aircraft Engineering and Aerospace Technology) since 1998, and Editor-in-Chief of JKSAS (Journal of Korean Society for Aeronautical and Space Science) and JKSPE (Journal of Korean Society of Propulsion Engineers) during 2006-2010.
